Pride of Baghdad OPTIC

O - This scene takes place on one of the last pages in the book. After the lions had escaped, and saw what the world outside of the zoo is; they got into the unpleasant situation of "meeting" U.S. soldiers. One of these, killed the lions and said that he didn’t have a choice. His colleges understood. After this frame, the story is basically done; only a few pages of pictures and statistics follow.

P - In this frame, there is a U.S. soldier putting his hand on the Lion. He wants to see what he had just killed. He also felt if the lion is still alive or not. The only text in this frame: "You didn’t have a choice. I know."

T- The quote is being said after the soldier had just killed a bunch of lions and his officer tells him it wasn’t his fault because he didn’t have a choice and he understands. This shows that although he felt sorry, his colleges told him to not do so because they were danger for their group of soldiers.

I - The image and the text work very well together. The soldier seems sorry for what he has done to the lion, but his officer tells him to not worry because he didn’t have a choice. It presents a very good picture of the human relationship to the lion. The humans are sorry for hurting them, but at the same time are scared and think the only way to not get hurt by the lions, is protecting themselves, by killing them. This is represented in the text. The picture and the text could also stand independent and would be interpreted the same way because of how they are written and illustrated and the context they are in.

C - This frame clearly illustrates the differences of Lions and Humans; the conflicts they have and how different people think about things that happen (such as shooting Lions).
